It’s a little known secret, but SEO isn’t actually something that’s been developed by search engines. The term SEO means Search Engine Optimization, and it refers to enhancing a range of aspects and factors within a website, in order to improve search result position. The search results are the pages that appear whenever you use a search engine to search for something that you are interested in finding.
For example, if you are looking for a particular product online (a bicycle for example), then you will usually launch your web browser and load a specific search engine (typically Google, Yahoo, Bing or Ask!). You’ll then have the option to enter ‘bicycle’, and then hitting the enter bar will bring up the results. You’ll see that a huge database of results will be displayed, and that’s where SEO comes in to the fray.
The websites that have been optimized, using a specific set of techniques (many of which are considered black hat, and not endorsed by Google), will display at the highest positions. These websites receive the highest volumes of traffic, and therefore the greatest amounts of sales and profits.
So what does SEO comprise exactly? Well it’s actually a variety of techniques that can increase the chances of a search engine prioritizing a particular website above others. These priority websites will often display at the very top of the search result pages, and as most people opt to visit the first couple of pages after they search; there’s a far higher chance of conversion from visits to sales.
There are several different methods involved in SEO, and these are backlinks, content, meta-tagging, page descriptions and keywords. When combined, these methods all provide a little extra juice to a website, and as far as search engines are concerned – they’ll prioritize those with the most effective methods.
Unfortunately, there are only a few of the above methods that are supported by Google, and of those some are held in higher esteem. For example, Google prefers it if your website’s descriptions are accurate and relevant. They also like it when your page titles match your keywords, as this helps them to better categorize your website when it comes to indexing.
The most important of all of these factors however, is content. In fact, content comprises a whopping 80% of a search engine’s attention, and the fresher the content, the better the results will be. What’s even better is if the content features specific keywords. These keywords need to be strategically placed, and our team have developed a formula to assist with this exact process.
